Yesterday I got my flu shot. For me, getting the flu shot is about looking after all of us. Our community.
Anyways, yesterday was a three for one because I walked to the pharmacy.
1. Boost herd immunity – check
2. Reduce carbon footprint – check
3. Deposit 6000 steps in the pedometer bank – check
I also went to my local, independent pharmacy. It’s possible this was a four for one because I supported local business. Woot! All I had to do was show up with my Alberta healthcare number and the shot was mine! This is amazing!
Here’s the thing…
When good care is accessible to each of us, we all have a better opportunity to claim and sustain our good health. We are only as healthy as the least healthy among us. Covid is teaching us this. Universal healthcare gives us a higher tide of wellness on which we can all sail.
I feel a great disappointment and sadness as we witness Alberta’s elected officials strive to reduce healthcare costs by demoralizing those who provided it. Trolling and dividing the providers who are currently holding an overburdened system together during a global pandemic strangely seems to be the preferred approach; it’s gross. I appreciate the intention to reduce costs, it’s something that needs to be done: and I am truly rooting for us to spend better. But in this case, especially at this time, the means do not justify the ends.
To the elected officials who are engaging in political trolling and general douchebaggery as a way to solve our financial challenges, please find another way.
To the Canadian taxpayers and the real nice pharmacist who made my flu shot happen, thanks for doing me the kind solid.
Flu shots are on like Donkey Kong: go get it! It’s is the right* herd to join!
Big nod to City of Edmonton and the Government of Canada for committing funds and making moves to tackle homelessness and contribute to the rising tide of wellness.
